Stunning Ruby Red Refreshment: Hibiscus Agua Fresca with Chia Seeds

Agua fresca, meaning "cool water" in Spanish, is a delightful and traditional Mexican beverage perfect for hot days. This recipe features hibiscus flowers (Jamaica), known for their beautiful ruby red color and tart flavor.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers (Jamaica)

4 cups water

1/4 cup agave nectar (or honey to taste)

1/4 cup fresh lime juice (or to taste)

3 tablespoons chia seeds

Lime wedges for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

In a saucepan, combine the hibiscus flowers and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for at least 30 minutes, or until cool.

Strain the cooled hibiscus tea into a pitcher using a fine-mesh sieve. Discard the solids. Stir in the agave nectar (or honey) until dissolved.

Add the lime juice and chia seeds to the pitcher. Stir well to combine. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the chia seeds have absorbed some liquid and become plump.

Serve and Enjoy! Pour your beautiful hibiscus agua fresca into glasses filled with ice. Garnish with lime wedges for an extra burst of flavor, if desired.

Tips:

Taste your agua fresca after adding the agave nectar or honey. Adjust the amount to your preference.

More tart? For a tangier drink, add more lime juice.

For a fun twist, add a splash of club soda to your glass just before serving.
